Efficiency of mutual funds and portfolio performance measurement: a non-parametric approach

Article Abstract:

A new index for measuring portfolio performance is proposed. The proposed relative performance measure does not need benchmark specification and incorporates transaction costs. Relative performance measures that do not require the specification of a benchmark are proposed. Data envelopment analysis (DEA) is used to compute relative measures of efficiency. The new index is called the DEA portfolio efficiency index.

Degree of scale economies and congestion: A unified DEA approach

Article Abstract:

Measurement of the extent to which congestion affects productivity in general, and scale economies in particular is very important to assess the economic benefits of congestion-reduction strategies. A novel method to measure scale elasticity in production in the presence of congestion, especially in a non-parametric framework, is suggested.

Output specification and performance measurement in fire services: an ordinal output variable approach

Article Abstract:

An analysis of the fire services is presented and it is concluded that there is no performance difference between full-time and part-time firemen. The performance of the fire services is the result of team spirit rather than the actual number of firemen fighting the fire.
