Egypt's Orascom turns to Italy for stronger cellphone market

Orascom Telecom Holdings S.A.E. of Egypt has recently acquired Wind Telecommuniczioni S.p.A. of Italy for 12.1 billion Euro, in the largest European leveraged buyout. Both cellular telephone services companies will be managed by holding company Weather Investments that forecasts more than 70 million customers, 13.5 million from Italy.

Banca Popolare Italiana is seen as merger target

Banca Popolare Italiana S.C.A.R.L. of Italy has announced early in August that it is open to merger negotiations. Consolidations in the fragmented banking sector are a trend in Italy. The bank is valued at 5.7 billion Euros ($7.3 billion).
