The publisher's putsch
Article Abstract:
The resignation of Andrew Sullivan as editor of US political weekly New Republic came after a number of incidents in which he clashed with Martin Peretz, the owner of the publication, and Leon Wieseltier, the literary editor. Sullivan had generally taken a light-hearted editorial approach, and the occasional more serious article tended to cause offence to some readers. The situation was also made more sensitive by the fact that Sullivan revealed that he is HIV positive at the time of his resignation.
