Ericsson earnings rise 17%, helped by Sony venture

Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson of Sweden posted a 17 percent increase in net profit for the third quarter to 6.23 billion Kronor ($843.5 million) from 5.31 billion Kronor last year. Strong results for the mobile phone maker were due in part, to revenues from a 50 percent stake in Sony Ericsson or Sweden and the acquisition of Marconi PLC of the United Kingdom.
