Ericsson's net increases 22% on Telecom network upgrades

Telecommunication equipment upgrades at Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson of Sweden have aided in a 22 percent increase in third quarter net profit although gross margins have decreased slightly. The telecommunications equipment company has picked up more business from its biggest customers with orders this month worth $290 million.

Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson of Sweden posted soaring net profits, up by 52 percent to 8.54 billion Kronor ($1.12 billion) in the fourth quarter. The telecommunications giant's profit increases were due to increased sales in emerging markets and North America. Gross margin fell to 44.2 percent from 45.6 percent a year earlier.
