Tony Quixote finds his windmill
Article Abstract:
British prime minister, Tony Blair, prefers to emphasise British membership of the European Union (EU) than support for membership of European monetary union. Public support for membership of monetary union has dropped to 24% in favor, while 63% oppose membership, so Blair has tactical reasons for this approach. There is little need to remind Britons that trade with the rest of Europe is beneficial, as the government is doing. William Hague, Conservative party leader, is involved in a real debate when he opposes membership of monetary union.
