The fast food sector in France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the UK for the period 1993-997 is examined. During this period, these markets have been characterized by maturity, saturation, menu diversification, intense price competition and wider retail distribution. The sector's fastest growing areas include pizzas, health-oriented foods and sandwiches. The British fast food market is the largest in Europe, although the Spanish and Italian markets have experienced strong growth in 1997.
