Europe's consumer catering industry was dominated by the fast food sector in the comparative sectoral performance in the 1993 to 1997 review period. The leading sector's sales increased by more than twofold over the five0year period in italy and Spain. The robust increase in the fast food sector in the five key markets is attributed to changing lifestyles and an acceptance of a catering concept, largely American in origin. The other three sectors in the consumer catering industry failed to record value growth in all five major markets.
