Broadband Internet service provider @Home is to undertake a $6.7 billion merger with web site Excite. This will make it possible for @Home to offer subscribers news, sports and consumer-related information, thus encouraging them to browse for longer and purchase items or read advertisements. @Home also gains access to a wide range of data that will be valuable for targeting advertisements. @Home, owned by TCI, currently has 330,000 subscribers.

The influence of Islam is growing on the Comoro Islands, a tiny three island republic on the Indian Ocean west of Madagascar. Attempts to produce a new constitution is proving difficult, as Islamic fundamentalists and differences between the individual islands are preventing an accord.

Research to determine whether people can detect magnetic fields has shown that they can produce an effect in some people's brains, but that whether or not people can feel them is still not known. The research was done on epileptic patients using electrodes.
