Expensive
Article Abstract:
The cost of a number of goods and services is greater in the United Kingdom than in a number of developed economies. This includes carpets, furniture, restaurants and cars. These high prices are not related to wealth, since the national income of the UK is lower than in many countries where goods are cheaper. Tax may push up the price of some goods, such as gasoline, and land prices push up the cost of supermarket goods. Planning law can create problems. There may also be covert price fixing. Consumers may also be slow in taking advantage of cheaper outlets such as mail order.
