Deeper in debt
Article Abstract:
The US credit card industry has offered easier credit to poorer people, so is being hypocritical in asking the government to make it more difficult for individuals to file for bankruptcy. Credit card companies are benefiting from high profit margins, so should accept the risks involved. The companies should not be permitted to change the rules prior to an economic downturn when the extent of the debt problem will become apparent. Borrowers tend to go bankrupt after personal trauma such as redundancy or divorce.
