Nicole Fontaine: a European conciliator-general
Article Abstract:
The president of the European parliament is Nicole Fontaine from the Union for French Democracy. The European People's Party obtained more votes than the European Socialists, and a liberal-conservative alliance elected Fontaine. She argues that the parliament will be free of corruption and will be a strong parliament involved in a range of issues including a common foreign policy for Europe. Politics in Europe involves compromise, and she is skilled in this art.

Three of the best
Article Abstract:
Traditionalists may be concerned about developments in modern cricket such as rule-changes, but there are still top-class players in this sport. The Marylebone Cricket Club, England, has been dominant in cricket world wide for some 100 years, but power has shifted elsewhere. English players have experience which may help the team though it is ageing and has no single player that can be called great. The winner of the 1999 tournament cannot easily be forecast.
