FLS Aerospace suspends talks on Aer Lingus's Team

FLS Aerospace announced the company had deferred its talks with Aer Lingus Group to acquire the latter's Irish state-owned Team aircraft-maintenance unit for an undisclosed sum. The decision of FLS had been anticipated following a vote of Team employees in the last week of May 1998 failed to back a compensation package valued at 55 million punts, or $78.6 million, which was intended for the preparation in transferring to FLS the ownership of Team. Both Aer Lingus and FLS, which is a unit of FLS Industries Group of Denmark, wanted to realize the acquisition of Team by FLS.

Taylor & Francis plans to purchase Routledge

Taylor and Francis Group PLC, a UK-based publishing firm that specializes in scientific and academic subjects, plans to acquire Routledge for up to 90 million pounds sterling, or $149.4 million. The deal will be funded by a placement of Taylor and Francis shares and by new bank locations and existing cash reserves. The acquisition of the UK-based academic-publishing company will complement Taylor and Francis' existing business and allow the company to add new subject areas and improve distribution opportunities.

RWE, VEW set to open merger talks
