FRANCE: 3 ON-LINE SALES SITES TESTED
Article Abstract:
Because only three Internet food sites deliver to La Defense, where the editorial offices of Le Monde Informatique are located, it limited the sample it tested to Houra, Ooshop, and Telemarket. The test involved an order (the same order for all three sites) of various food products, including three bottles of lowest-priced AOC wines, which makes it difficult compare the three sites. Carrefour's Ooshop site was pleasant to browse, with managed products and the possibility of sorting products by alphabetical order or by price. However, the big weak point was delivery, which was limited to 5.00 pm to 10.00 pm and a 48-hour minimum waiting period despite its high prices (FFr 79 on a total bill of FFr 226.15). Galeries Lafayette, the oldest of the on-line food markets in France, had the lowest delivery cost of the three (FFr 59 for a total bill of FFr 194.35 for the market basket). It offered quality service with delivery within 24 hours, between 7.00 am and 11.00 pm. This site began on the Minitel and it was not as easy to use as that of Ooshop, with no sorting possible, less detailed products sheets, etc, but the person placing the order can change the amount ordered at the last minute, so they don't have to go back. Cora's Houra, which does not have any chilled or frozen products (nor the sausage which Le Monde Informatique ordered) had therefore the lowest bill, with FFr 179.45, including FFr 67 for the delivery. Houra's delivery period ranges from 7.00 am to 9 pm, except for Saturdays and Sundays. This site, which appears to be the only one interested in customer satisfaction, and it included a response form supplied with the delivery. However, it has a limited choice and is not as easy to use.

FRANCE: ALTADIS MANAGES STAFF TRAVEL
Article Abstract:
Altadis, formed from the merger of French state-owned tobacco monopoly Seita with Tabacalera, its Spanish counterpart, is seeking to improve its management of staff travel. This process includes training staff who travel regularly between different company locations to manage their own arrangements by using the Wave system from KDS. Wave can offer suggestions about the most cost-effective forms of travel, and integrates factors such as loyalty cards and special offers. Altadis anticipates that it will achieve a return on its investment in this system within two years.
