FRANCE: CABANON TO FOCUS ON ITS BRAND

The Le Cabanon company produces 45% of its 300,000 tonnes of processed tomatoes in France. It holds a 9% market share, and it is the leading national brand on the tomato concentrate sector. It ranks second on the diced tomato, peeled tomatoes, white beans, kidney beans, and lentil sectors. Private labels represent 60% of the company's activity, but nevertheless, it wants to promote its own brand. Therefore the packaging and logo has been revised and the cans are now all easy-open cans. Le Cabanon is expected to be available everywhere in France before it launches a major advertising campaign and major in-store promotional operations.

FRANCE: ROYAL CHAMPION'S PROMOTION

Royal Champion has launched a promotional operation whereby consumers may win a EUR 1,829.39 cheque, or a EUR 152.45 cheque, or reduction coupons. The consumers just telephone in order to find out what they have won. This promotion is presented on cans of Royal Champion mushrooms, starting in March 2001.
