France: A Petit Casino in Austerlitz rail station
Article Abstract:
A Petit Casino grocery store was installed in the hall of the Paris Austerlitz RER regional express railway station in March 1999. Of the 40,000 people who pass through this hall, 600 to 800 visit the 60 square- metre shop every day. The shop's daily revenues range from EUR 1,067 to EUR 1,525 with an average market basket of EUR 2.3. The shop has lost part of its clientele since Bibliotheque Francois Mitterand rail station opened. Nevertheless, the SNCF, which received 5% of the sales, is satisfied with the earnings of the store, which was chosen to increase the station's security and to offer a desired service.
