FRANCE: FOOD PRODUCT SUCCESS
Article Abstract:
Being voted 'Product of the Year' does not guarantee success on the mass consumption market. While some winners, such as Liebig's PurSoup (voted Product of the Year in 1997) and Candia's Grand Lait (which won in 1989), have now become fixtures on store shelves, others have purely and simply disappeared. In order to success, food product manufacturers must be ahead of demand, choose wide targets, and offer really innovative products. Candia's Grand Lait was an innovation with high added value. It was the first milk in a 1.5 litre bottle with a screw cap and peel-off aluminium lid. Its success came quickly. Grand Lait sales skyrocketed, up 70% in value in hypermarkets, and up 37.5% in supermarkets. The consumers liked the Grand Lait because it was practical to use.
