FRANCE: ITM'S RESULTS AND GOALS
Article Abstract:
Intermarche made a turnover of FFr 154bn in France in 1998 compared with FFr 147.3bn in 1997. The group's turnover comes to FFr 230bn with the addition of the Spar chain. With all retail chains and countries combined, ITM has 3,138 stores (1998 data) including 1,855 Intermarche stores, 419 Bricomarche stores, 358 Ecomarche stores, and 136 Stationmarche stores. In France, ITM expects to open 95 new units in 1999,all retail chains combined. The group opened and took over about ten new stores, and enlarged fifty, giving it an additional 130,000 square metres of sales space.

Hyparlo, the French retail company based in Lyon, made a pre-tax consolidated turnover of FFr 4.7bn in 1997. It is going to renovate and ultimately enlarge 11 franchised Continent stores, which will enable to meet the performance ratios of the best Continent stores. Hyparlo also has plans for Italy where it is building a store of about 7,000 square metres of sales space, and another is to be built in 2001. Hyparlo intends to take up opportunities for acquisitions in France.
