EUROPE: SURVEY OF INDUSTRIAL SITES
Article Abstract:
The American group IBM has carried out a survey of European Internet belonging to 106 multinationals who make products for the general public. Of these 106 companies, 34.6% have between two and five sites, and 22% have at least 10. The study shows that 30% of the plants have no links with other sites, and when these links do exist, their number varies according to the company. A large part of these sites are not listed on the major search engines and only 9% offer Internet users the possibility of making purchases on-line because the manufacturers fear a deterioration in their relations with retailers, depriving them with part of their sales. Certain manufacturers offer only original, made-to-order products on the Internet.
