FRANCE: NEW SERVICES/FORECAST FOR SOPRA
Article Abstract:
The French IT systems integrator and consulting group, Sopra, is banking on the reinforcement of its services in order to boost its turnover. Sopra is expecting FFr 3bn this year, compared to FFr 2.1bn in 1999, and FFr 4bn in 2001, representing growth of more than 30%. The group is focusing on the growing Internet applications and the e-business sector, and is offering an entire range of products and services necessary for companies to develop their information systems to wards this market. To do this, Sopra recently joined forces with Easynet to offer complete services on the Internet, for market places, Internet platforms,and business Internet portals. The group is also considering creating several specialist e-commerce centres or call centres. In 2001, its consultancy division is also expected to account for 10% of its turnover, and 500 consultants, compared to 300 today.

FRANCE: SOPRA CONTRACT WITH FRENCH ARMY

Sopra won a competition which also involved Bull, Cap Gemini, IBM, Sema Group and Siemens among others, for the supply of a pay management software to the French army. Around 18 months after the call for tenders was launched, Sopra emerged as the winner for this contract, which will allow the firm to provide its human resources management software, Pleiades for the slip management of a military staff of 420,000. The army has selected Pleiades as the unique software for the job, when it used to run different software solutions for its different bodies (land forces, air force, navy, etc.).

FRANCE: 35 HOUR WEEK FOR IBM FRANCE
Article Abstract:
With three trade unions (FO, CGC, UNSA) approving the proposals, IBM France recently signed an agreement to reduce the working week to 35 hours. Some categories of personnel were given two and a half weeks extra paid days off, representing 1,561 working hours, while other categories saw the number of working days fixed at 214, which is 21 days less than before. Concerning some 15,000 employees, the agreement for the IT services and solutions group will be effective as from 1st January 2001.
