Recent investigations into the killing of Black leaders has implicated some of Pres F.W. de Klerk's top officers in conspiracies to destroy the leadership of the African National Congress (ANC) and to defame the ANC politically. This comes at a time of important negotiations for a new interim government.

Conservative Party leaders in South Africa are divided in their reaction to President F.W. de Klerk's call for a referendum election. The referendum would be to gauge the white public's confidence in de Klerk's policies. Some Conservative leaders want to boycott the election, others do not.

Resistance to the government's plan to give political power to Blacks in South Africa could become more violent. The possibility of a coup led by Eugene Terre'Blanche with the support of the police and the military can not be completely ruled out.
