US securities firms are directing more private capital to Latin American countries that are experiencing growth spurred by economic reforms. Private companies in Mexico, Venezuela, Argentina, Brazil and Chile sold $4.5 billion in bonds to foreign investors in the first half of 1992.

Latin America has privatized a good deal of its infrastructure but still needs foreign investment to improve it. Evaluations of foreign investment in Latin American telecommunications, transportation, electricity, and water and sewer systems are presented.

Investments in Latin America from Asian countires other than Japan are growing. Efforts made by Latin American countries are one reason for the trend. Another reason is the easy access that Latin America offers to US markets.
