Article Abstract:
Two visually-striking bridges are being constructed in parkland at Mechtenberg Gelsenkirchen, Germany. The are being designed in collaboration between the U.K.'s Buro Happold and German architect Frei Otto. The pedestrian bridges were designed to be sculptural as well as functional.

A firm footing for success
Article Abstract:
The Cheung Kong Centre Footbridge in Hong Kong was constructed under tough space constraints. That, combined with the aesthetic requirements of the developer, fueled an innovative design. The bridge twists and curves over city streets.

Tricks of the light
Article Abstract:
A footbridge in Maidstone, Kent, uses clever visual trickery to appear lightweight and slender. The bridge is supported on two pairs of V-shaped piers. The deck is an inverted T shape.
