Fantastic plastic
Article Abstract:
Plastics can persist in the environment for a long time and this problem is being tackled by Cargill Dow Polymers, which is developing biodegradable plastics. Beet or maize can be used as raw materials, and the quality of the plastic has improved due to research on polylactide polymers. Petrochemicals have tended to be used as they offer stronger and cheaper plastics, but this could change with the new developments. The company may setup a plant to make these new plastics in Jan 2000.
