Nordsee Deutsche Hochseefischerei GmbH is the biggest German-based company to operate in the fast-food market and is largely controlled by the Apax Partner & Co. investors group. Owned by Deutsche Unilever until 1997, the company has a presence in wholesaling and retailing under the Duetsche See banner, aside from its catering operations. Nordsee branded restaurants have a menu focused on fish, buy its new Nordsee Drive outlets boasts of a wider menu and a new distribution form. However, Nordsee reported lower-than-expected 1997 results mainly due to scandals over the presence of nematode worms in fish products.

British Airways reported a 16.3% increase in pre-tax profits to 550 million pound-sterling in 1997, thanks in part to the rejuvenated demand for premium travel. Group turnover rose 7.7% to 8.4 billion pound-sterling over the same period. With an eye towards fostering more business opportunities in the future, the airline is opeining the new Terminal 5 at Heathrow airport by the end of 2000. The company has also moved to consolidate its corporate headquarters into a single location at Heathrow airport.
