Company profiles: Iberia Lineas Aereas de Espana SA
Article Abstract:
Iberia Lineas Aereas de Espana SA is Spain's leading airline with 66.5% of the domestic market in 1996. The carrier, however, is under heavy pressure from competitors, forcing the company to engage in a price war to recover and maintain its market share. A restructuring program, meanwhile, has led to a turnaround as the company posted a net profit of Ptas3.5 billion in 1996 from a net loss of Ptas44.9 billion in 1995. Drastic changes are in the offing for the company, whose days as a public company may be numbered with a new government with different political persuasions.
