Federal Express, after convoluted approval, may be attractive addition to Subic Bay zone
Article Abstract:
Federal Express Corp., after a much-delayed approval process, has been allowed to use Subic Bay International Airport as an Asian hub to reduce delivery times and increase freight capacity. The Memphis, TN-based courier firm intends to use the airport and a nearby sorting facility to consolidate cargo from other Asian and US destinations prior to transshipment. Subic officials are hoping that the arrival of Fed Ex would encourage high-tech computer and software firms to set up shop in the sprawling free-port zone.

Subic Bay begins projects to draw foreign tourists
Article Abstract:
An airport modernization project, upgrading of a golf course and the construction of a museum, a marina and hotels are expected to attract more foreign tourists to Subic Bay. Majority of visitors to the former US naval base are the locals who come for duty-free shopping, with only a handful of foreigners visiting. The airport project, in particular, is seen to draw more foreigners, as transporting them from the capital of Manila through helicopters apparently discourages them from coming back.
