Article Abstract:
African Plantations Corp (APC) has acquired estates in Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi and Tanzania, and set up coffee and tea plantations. The company was set up by Dekel Golan, an Israeli, who sees a need for more educated people who are prepared to work in rural areas. The company is setting up a school to help remedy this deficiency. Golan aims to diversify over the longer term, growing flowers, fresh fruit and other produce. He aims to employ a few skilled workers, rather than many unskilled workers.

Drowning in cheap coffee
Article Abstract:
Latin American economies have been badly hit by the continuing drop in the price of coffee, which is in turn due to a glut of coffee on the market. Coffee growers now need to improve marketing in order to raise demand, and to raise prices by boosting quality or turning to the 'fair-trade' sector.
