If all electric power plants convert to clean burning gas energy, England and Wale will have an generating capacity excess of 50%. Once the problems of over supply are worked out, gas powered electricity will be a boon to the environment and the consumer.

The economics of coal
Article Abstract:
The proposed closure of coal mines throughout Britain is generating controversy. The world price of coal is far below British prices. The overall cost to the economy caused by closing the pits may be higher because of the resulting unemployment.

The High Court of Britain ruled that the closure of coal pits by the government ignored the rights of miners. British coal pits can be saved by eliminating dependence on foreign producers, gas producers or nuclear power.
