Asia's power play is sapped
Article Abstract:
California's power problems, with its blackouts and brownouts, have served to slow down many Asian countries' efforts to deregulate. Mohd Annas Mohd Nor, the chairman of Malaysia's energy regulatory commission, notes that Malaysia has opted not to power pool in part because of California's experience. In Asia, over half a dozen countries are now undergoing power-sector deregulation. The region is also the world's fastest-growing in terms of energy consumption.

Ferragamo facelift for Asia; downturn doesn't deter expansion plans
Article Abstract:
Salvatore Ferragamo Italia SpA plans new stores in Seoul, Shanghai, Beijing, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, and Singapore, along with remodeling of existing stores. Merchandising manager James Ferragamo says that Ferragamo stores continue to do well in Japan (where the company has more stores than it does in Europe) because the Japanese spend a lower percentage of their income on rent, and in Asia generally because of greater brand recognition. China will be the fastest growing market for Ferragamo.
