Gourmet and specialty health food stores in Western nations are stocking red rice, a traditional staple in Bhutan. Although over 57 tons of red rice have already been exported to the West this year, the grain will probably not move into the mass market due to production and shipping issues in Bhutan.

American textile aficionado Marko Bartholomew currently owns what may be the largest collection of Bhutanese textiles in the world. The royal government of Bhutan is trying to buy back its textiles, which were not valued as national treasures until recently, but Bartholomew's price may be too high for Bhutan to afford.
