ADB gives bond markets a leg-up

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is committed to developing capital markets in Asia. The ADB began as a multilateral lending institution dedicated to easing poverty in Asia. It has helped developing capital markets by standardizing the format of currency bond issues and creating liquidity and familiarity in the market. It recently was at work in the Philippines, recommending wide-ranging capital market reforms prior to releasing a $150 mil loan,

Indonesia's local investors are bolstering the country's economy. Their involvement in big projects and increasing investment interests are boosted by the introduction of the Jakarta Automated Trading System in 1995. Strong interest may be manifested on banks, cigarette companies and particular property firms. Growth is also being promoted by the growing number of mutual funds.
