Firms jump on telephony bandwagon to cut phone bills
Article Abstract:
A number of telecommunications firms, such as MagicTel Ltd. and AT&T Corp., are embracing Internet telephony, a process of routing long-distance calls through the Internet, to beat the high cost of long-distance calls. The technology provides a cheaper means to long-distance calls, particularly to international calls without the hassles and delay that traditionally plaque the World Wide Web. IP telephony avoids the traditional telecom carriers and their costly revenue-sharing agreements, resulting in lower phone bills. IP telephony also offers clearer reception than traditional Internet callback services.
