Five H share companies listed in 1996
Article Abstract:
The Chinese pharmaceutical company Shandong Xinhua Pharmaceutical Co. was the last Chinese mainland company to look for overseas funds in 1996. A 140-million H share issue was offered in December 1996. Shandong Xinhua will use the 255 million Hong Kong dollars raised to expand production and develop new products. In another Chinese issue, an innovative London/Hong Kong dual listing planned for November 1996 for Beijing Datang Power Generation was postponed until late 1997. The company sacked its global co-ordinator Salomon Brothers reputedly because of disagreements over pricing.

China shares jostle to list overseas
Article Abstract:
Despite delays to Beijing Power's plan to be listed overseas, many other Chinese companies are queuing for the opportunities that foreign listing will bring. Among those seeking international exposure are highway operator Anhui Expressway, conglomerate Aviation Industries of China and oil company China Petrochemical Corp. Beijing Power was to have been listed in London and Hong Kong in November 1996, but this has been postponed, probably because of problems over pricing.

China candidates listed
Article Abstract:
Mini-car manufacturer Liuzhou Wuling Motor Company is one of 18 Chinese companies which have had B share-issues approved. Liuzhou's offering includes 240 million B shares and the company would prefer a Shanghai rather than Shenzhen listing, due to currency instability in the latter. Other companies expected to release B shares include Shanghai Electric Corporation Group, Dalian Refrigeration Company, and Guilin Tourism.
