Flying high: new carriers give passengers more travel options
Article Abstract:
Eastern Asia's leading airlines are fostering subsidiaries or partners to take over routes that are not profitable for the big companies to run. The new smaller airlines emphasize low-priced travel while allowing their large parents or partners to reduce costs. Chief among these new smaller airlines are Japan's World Air Network and Japan Air Charter, South Korea's Asiana, Taiwan's EVA Airlines, Australia's Ansett Airlines, Singapore's Silkair, Hongkong's Dragonair and Indonesia's Merpati.
