Flying low
Article Abstract:
Stock prices for US financial services companies have risen following an announcement that the Glass-Steagall law is to be repealed. Bank stock prices have also benefited from receding fears of interest rate rises. Banks would be affected by a downturn in stock prices, and may underestimate the impact of an economic downturn. Banks' profits have risen because they are acecepting higher risk levels, and their loan portfolios could be damaged by a recession.
