Same game, new rules: business puzzled by China's warning
Article Abstract:
The Hong Kong government's business deals will not be valid after 1997 unless they are approved by China. This Chinese ultimatum has slowed down business decisions such as the construction of the new airport, bus services and broadcast TV stations. Only two companies claim to be unaffected. China Light & Power's new profit-control guidelines were approved earlier by the Sino-British Joint Liaison Group, and Hong Kong Telecommunications obtained its franchise for international telecommunications links in 1981.
