Article Abstract:
Securitization of intellectual property (IP) has the potential to attract large sums of money. Individuals who have undertaken the process include singer David Bowie, but companies, including Disney and Calvin Klein, have also raised IP bond issues. They support them with licences, copyright and trade marks. Securitization is a mysterious process to many in the financial world, but it is cheap, it provides flexible finance, it can protect against hostile bids, and it can form the security for an acquisition without drawing on shareholder funds.
