The U.K. market for vended food products reached 450 million pounds sterling n 1994, up nearly 9% from 1993. There were 140,000 food vending machines in use in the U.K. in 1994, against 120,000 units in 1993. The food sector is the most dynamic within the total market, although the drinks sector has the largest volume sales. The main parts of the food sector are confectionery, perishable foods and bag snacks. It is forecast that 171,00 food vending machines will be in use by 2000, with sales estimated at 542 million pounds sterling.

The U.K. market for alcoholic drinks is relatively new and began to emerge in 1995. The alcoholic carbonates market was estimated at 100 million pounds sterling in 1995, out of a total alcoholic beverages market worth over 25.8 billion pounds sterling. The market is dominated by lemon-based drinks, accounting for some 90% of sales, which are dominated by two brands: Hooper's Hooch from Bass and Two Dogs from Merrydown. It is expected that sales of alcoholic soft drinks will rise to 335 million pounds sterling by 2000.
