The so-called California Civil Rights Initiative (CCRI) was supposed to make opposition to affirmative action (AA) the dominant theme of the Nov 1996 US elections, but thus far, the political impact of CCRI has been muted. Still, polls show that a plurality of California voters favor the anti-AA measure.
