Foster solves the big span problem with pre-cast concrete

Sir Norman Foster and Partners' office in London, UK, has launched a fundraising campaign for the construction of the American Air Museum at Duxford, UK. The museum will cost 7.2 million pounds sterling, and will display veteran USAF warplanes. The construction will consist of a concrete canopy 10.5 mt high, 90 mt wide, and 100 mt deep. The canopy will be a curve, and will consist of two precast reinforced concrete panels linked by struts. The use of torus geometry will allow each element of the canopy to have exactly the same curvature.

Publisher, The Oxford University Press, has redeveloped its city centre headquarters and printing works using a combination of new building and refurbishment of the existing Nineteenth Century buildings. AMEC Design and Management carried out the work under a design and build contract, using a combination of brick and glass to ensure the new buildings did not detract fromthe older parts of the site. A three storey atrium connects the new buildings with the old, many of which had to be extensively refurbished and repaired.
