Four trading firms merge: move adheres to bigger-is-better trend

The four trading firms run by China's Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation has been consolidated by the agency into a new trading entity, the China General Technology (Group) Holding Ltd. The agency's decision to merge the four trading firms comes from efficiency considerations as well as to reduce the involvement of the agency in daily operations. The trading firms that were merged into China General Technology were the National Technical Import and Export Corp, China National Machinery Import and Export Corp, China National Instruments Import and Export Corp. and China National Corporation for Overseas Economic Cooperation.

Singapore's Acma lives by the credo: one good turnaround deserves another
Article Abstract:
Acma is a Singapore-based trading firm which has acquired a reputation for buying up troubled companies and then turning them around. The company recently saved US-based modem manufacturer Hayes Microcomputer Products (Hayes), which was being targeted for a takeover by its competitors. Acma bought 49% of the company but retained its founder, Dennis Hayes, as the company chairman. As with its previous acquisitions, Acma plans to take Hayes public once the company makes a comeback.

Japanese businesses warm up to opportunities in India

Honda Motor Co has allotted $240 mil for a car assembly venture in India, while Toyota Motor Corp is considering an automobile venture.
