France: Legrand invests EUR 5-6mn in e-procurement
Article Abstract:
French electrical equipment manufacturer, Legrand is investing EUR 5-6mn over three years into a e-procurement project which started in April 2000. The first pilot site composed of the electronic catalogue of five or six suppliers (14,000 lines in total) has been operational since June 2001, and a second site should be operational in around 15 sites in Europe before the end of the year. The company wants to reduce the number of suppliers to around 20 in each market sector, instead of 120-130 today. The company expects to save EUR 20mn per year thanks to this project, once e-procurement is operational throughout Europe within two to three years. Purchase prices will account for 80% of the money saved, compared to 10% from stock reduction and another 10% in time saved.
