France: Lidl's plan for a logistics unit
Article Abstract:
The Lidl deep discount retail chain is going to invest EUR 15mn in the construction of its 13th logistics unit in France. This unit will be built on 25,000 square metres of land near Lunel in the Herault departement. This will have a parking lot which can hold a hundred light vehicles and 25 heavy lorries, and it will supply the group's 80 stores in the Languedoc-Roussillon departement (60 existing stores and 20 new stores planned by 2003).

The Carrefour group is to buy the Chareton retail group. Chareton, which makes a turnover of over FFr 1bn, has three hypermarkets, which have taken the Carrefour name, and five supermarkets, which have taken the Stoc name, as the result of a commercial agreement between Carrefour and Comptoirs Modernes in 1997.
