Fleury Michon expects to make 5.7% of its turnover from exports in 2001, compared with 4% at present. The group plans to develop a chain of Viennese pastry and sandwich outlets in Poland, the Czech Republic and Hungary. It also intends to use its 75%-owned subsidiary Regional Foods Development, which has developed exports to Northern Europe and French overseas departments and territories, as well as setting up two partnerships in Southern Europe - one with the Navidul group in Spain, which makes processed meats and dry salt meats for self-service departments, and Beretta in Italy which makes processed meats for self-service departments.

FRANCE: THE EVEN GROUP'S GOALS

Even the Brittany-based French cooperative group is preparing for its future and increasing its internationalisation. It is concentrated on four buoyant sectors - dairy products, human nutrition, meat, and retailing - and in 2000 it is launching a FFr 200mn industrial investment program. Even is going to build a FFr 70mn dairy plant, to build a FFr 40mn new poultry processing plant, to build a FFr 20mn crepe production plant at Ploudaniel, to develop new FFr 20mn production lines for the nutrition division, and it will install a cheese packaging plant near London for British supermarkets and hypermarkets and restaurants, hotels and food services. Even intends to continue its external growth policy. It has FFr 900mn in capital stock and a zero debt load. The Even group is counting on innovation to gain market shares in France and for exports.

France: Roger Vidal's export goals

Roger Vidal, the French small company, made a turnover of EUR 0.76mn from sales of meat paste, terrines, and cooked sauces in jars, of which 42% was from exports. The company has created a network of importers and retailers and exclusive agents in a good part of Europe, Brazil, Argentina, Australia, Japan, and Sri Lanka since 1992. The company has established a development plan by zones in order to consolidate its gains and expand its outlets. It is placing a priority on Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Portugal and North America, and it has launched a line of sauces reserved for export. The company has participated in the most recent fine grocery trade fair in the United States and its objective in the there is to make FFr 150,000 in sales worth by July 2002.
