France Telecom, Telefonica may join battle for control of Telecom Italia

France Telecom S.A. and Spain's Telefonica S.A. are both considering making counteroffers for Telecom Italia S.p.A. Bids have already been made by AT&T and its Mexican affiliate America Movil S.A. The Italian government has voiced its preference that ownership of Telecom Italia remain within the country.
