France authorizes curfews as riots cast doubt on its policing system
Article Abstract:
The suburbs of the cities of France have become fireballs at night with rioting by, for the most part, Muslim youth causing the government to impose curfews. During the violence of the past week more than 5,000 vehicles have been torched, 77 policemen have been injured and 1,285 people have been arrested. Police departments have mobilized 9,500 officers and concerns have been raised about the police and community relations.
