Panicked reaction to slow recovery from the recession by George Bush and other policy makers is only slowing economic development further. The recession was a shallow one, and this will make recovery seem slower and less dramatic than recovery from deeper recessions in the past.

The manufacturing paradox

Developed countries have seen the manufacturing sector's share of GDP decline significantly since the 1960s, despite the doubling or trebling of manufacturing output and the rise in worker productivity. These trends will produce a new protectionism.

Where are the jobs?

Concern is being expressed because of the lack of new jobs being created despite the economic recovery. Such concern is premature, as eventually high technology and more international competition will create more jobs than they take away.
