Thai woes prompt warning signals to flash elsewhere
Article Abstract:
The Thai currency devaluation brings to light similar situations in other Southeast Asian countries such as Malaysia, Philippines and Indonesia. Malaysian banks have posted the highest exposure to property loans and while the rise in demand is legitimate, the increase in investment activities may result in overcapacity and consequently, bad loans. The Philippine situation is similar but is also compounded by excess liquidity while Indonesia is plagued by excess borrowing of foreign capital.

Asia pinches Northwest U.S.: rivalry nettles American region amid signs of economic slowdown
Article Abstract:
The American Northwest is starting to show signs of an impending economic downturn after years of strong economic performance bolstered by increased domestic and foreign spending on the region's most well-known products. The region is particularly vulnerable to external developments because of its heavy reliance on trade with the economically turbulent Asia and on the floundering commodity industries, such as wheat and wood.
