Fund managers look at India
Article Abstract:
International fund managers are exploiting India's economic and political instability, as buying opportunities expand with the rapid decline of stocks. Through mutual funds investors have been able to acquire Indian stocks at very reasonable rates, particularly after the Sensitive Index plunged as a result of the air strikes launched by the Indian government against Pakistan militants in northern Kashmir. However, the possibility of a war between the two rival countries poses a significant threat to fund managers.

Fund managers are starting to take a bullish look at Japan; mix of corporate restructuring, a lower yen and interest rates near zero lift cautiousness
Article Abstract:
Fund managers have become optimistic about the Japanese economy which has prompted increased investments in the Tokyo market. A recent survey showed that 59% of Asian-Pacific managers predict an improvement in Japan's economy in the year 2000 while buyers of Japanese domestic equities reached record highs since Sep 1998. This change in attitude is attributed to Japan's increased corporate restructuring and reduced yen and interest rates.
